Confessions from the Killer Mime Cult

As some of you may or may not recall, Poland for about fifty years was a communist country. Before that, and before the war, most people lived in the country side, and were peasants. During the communist period, though, the country underwent a rapid urbanization and industrialization. But the communist authorities decided that all factory workers have a right to a plot of land in the city, were they could grow their own vegetables, flowers, whatever. Although communism has been gone for about 20 years, these small gardens still exist. They are known as Jaowki, which is both impossible to pronounce and to translate. They are very nice and I decided that I wanted to have one. To grow vegetables, maybe a have a telescope. I mentioned this to Ola and she said, maybe in the future we could find one. Ola and I were visiting her family this morning and we were sitting in her mother's Jaowka. With her mother, sister and grandmother. I said that it was a very nice Jaowka and I wanted one. Her grandmother said that she had three. And that she could give us one. I was shocked. Happy shocked, though. It would be very nice. And then I asked how big it was, thinking it would be about the size of her mother's Jaowka. They told me it's almost a hectare. 10,000 metres squared. That's a pretty big place. We're going to look at it when Ola has a free day on the weekend. Pretty excited. I could have a garden, telescope, and Iza, Ola's sister wants to build a house there. She's an architect.
